| About My Writing Now a retired dentist,I still have a monthly column in a leading dental journal.Having been published in animal,yachting and short story magazines,my main interest now is writing for children(my wife tells me I've never grown up!) Taken off the slush pile three times only to fall at the final hurdle.'Court of Foxes' was the Wales Region winner in the 2007 Undiscovered Authors competition for new novels. As mine was the only children's novel, not being the overall winner was not such a disappointment.The Welsh Academi sponsored the launch in July 2008,as the story is set in Wales. Four top children's authors have read and love the manuscript, so their endorsements should help promotion. My self-published children's book,'Loppylugs and the Dam,' aimed at the 4-8 year group and illustrated by a brilliant artist, is doing well. I have done book signings in Wales, Cheshire, and my home town of Derby, with numerous school visits as well. PPS: I was in the Longlist of 10 for the Wales Children's Book of the Year 2009 | Authors' Register: | About My Background In general dental practice for..a lifetime!, but amazingly, tried a short story in the Sunday Express when they had a children's feature.They not only bought it, but four more that year.Sadly, a new editor took over and axed the feature, but the writing bug had bitten.I suppose still being a kid at heart I have veered towards writing for children, and feel I am now so near that elusive publication. Looking at my photo, I think that maybe I should have posted my Cass's instead. No, she isn't my other half, but my fabulous looking dog! |
